猶(な)ほ 琵琶を抱きて 半ば面(おもて)を遮る
千呼万唤始出来,犹抱琵琶半遮面。 ——白居易《琵琶行》
A note from this Pipa Musician..
During 9-5, you may know me as Stella, the dynamic personality navigating through the corporate world. As the Sun set and we transit 5-9, I step into the name my oldest friends remember as - Xueqi.
Between those two worlds rests this Pipa. It is an instrument born in antiquity, but its heart beats to a contemporary cadence. When I pluck a string, it does not exist in an orchestra, but it speaks directly to the modern air around it. I enjoy placing its sharp, crystalline voice into conversations with the deep resonance of guitars, the hypnotic pulse of handpan drums, and the lush architecture of electronic keys.
These sounds do not compete but they complete each other. Layer by layer, they wash across the quiet room like watercolor on paper, building a space where every chord is a piece of who I truly am.
